Art Update

Students are working on a variety of three dimensional projects in Art 3D. The medium that we have been working with extensively is papier-mâché. Grade 7 are completing their architectural 3D letters. Several Grade 7 students have been working in groups to develop large production props for the musical Into the Woods such as giant birch and oak trees, a giant beanstalk, and giant fairy tale books. Be sure to come to our Into the Woods musical that will be happening at the end of this month to check out these amazing art pieces! Grade 8 are working on their “fauxidermy” animal/character heads. Others are working on developing Thank You X (famous street artist) cubist sculptures and some students are creating metaphorical masks. Grade 9 was also given the option of working on a papier-mâché sculpture of their own choice or work in small groups to develop a life size tape sculpture around a particular theme. These are being installed in various areas around our school. We will be moving into working with ceramics in the next few weeks.

Into The Woods Jr.

It’s getting to be that time! The musical is fast approaching, and students have been working very hard preparing all the props, painting the set, singing, dancing and memorizing their lines. I am excited to see full audiences of parents, family members, friends and teachers on April 24, 25, 26!!

An adaptation of Stephen Sondheim's and James Lapine's fairytale comes to life with West Ridge School's produc-tion of Into the Woods JR. Students bring back all of your favourite childhood characters from classic fairytales, as you are joined by the likes of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack (and his beanstalk) and the Witch. Enter into a lyri-cal retelling of classic Brothers Grimm fables.

The musical focuses on the Baker and his wife, who hope to have a child; Cinderella who wishes to go to the King's festival; and Jack and his cow Milky White. The characters stories weave among one another as the Baker and his wife embark on a journey to break the witch's curse.

West Ridge's Into the Woods JR brings you singing, dancing, laughs and thrills. Director Kerrie Lutz describes the musical as “an energetic and highly entertaining performance delivered by amazingly talented students.”

When: April 24 -26 at 7 PM
Where: West Ridge School

Tickets can be purchased through the main office of West Ridge School at a cost of $10 starting April 10, 2019.
