Field trips are an important part of school activities. Trips/events that take place during the school day are chosen because they enhance the curriculum. Attendance at these field trips is strongly encouraged.

Permission forms for field trips must be returned by the due date to allow the planners to make the final arrangements for transportation, class coverage, and payments to the service provider. Students are reminded that it is their responsibility to take the form home, have it read and signed by a parent/guardian and to return the form to school by the due date. Students not returning forms by the due date will not be permitted to attend the field trip. In some cases, trips may need to be cancelled if sufficient numbers of forms are not returned.

Students who do not attend scheduled trips will be expected to attend school as usual. Teachers will provide alternate assignments for students unable to go on a particular trip.

If a school trip is cost-prohibitive, please call the teacher in charge and the school will work with the parent to ensure no student misses out!

Sailing and Quebec Trips

We are looking forward to our Grade 9 sailing and Grade 8 Quebec trips in the spring of 2019. We have twenty-five grade nines ready to set sail with Ms. Zakus, Ms. Paxton and Mr. Scollard in May. We have eight grade eight students ready to invade Quebec during the last week of May and first week of June. Ms. Moore will lead the first group of travellers along with Mr. Littel, Mr. Braynen, Ms. Hassett, and Ms. Kaminski. Ms. Price will lead the second group along with Mr. O’Shaughnessy, Mr. Pentney, Ms. Hug, and Ms. Morrison. Fundraising initiatives for these trips will begin shortly.

Off-Site Activities at the CBE

At the CBE, we call “field trips” off-site activities. Off-site activities are learning experiences that occur away from the school site and are organized and supervised by the CBE. All off-site activities must adhere to our Administrative Regulation 3027 – Off-Site Activities. Off-site activities enable students to participate in quality learning experiences that are:
  • Supporting educational outcomes
  • Relevant, flexible, and accessible
  • Connected to the Alberta Programs of Study and learning outcomes, Guide to Education and CBE Results statements

An off-site activity usually originates with the classroom teacher (called the teacher-in-charge) who makes a proposal to his or her principal. Once the activity is approved (based on learning impact and safety), the teacher will provide information to parents regarding the off-site activity including potential risks that are unique to the activity.

Preparing Your Child for an Off-Site Activity

  • Read all of the information sent home with your child from the teacher
  • After reviewing information, if you want your child to participate in the off-site activity sign the Acknowledgment of Risk Form and any other documents provided by the teacher
  • A parent meeting is required for all overnight off-site activities, and may be held for other off-site activities
  • Talk to your child about the activity – where they will go, what they will do and what they will be learning about
  • The consent of the parent, guardian, or volunteer must be obtained before the student may participate in an off-site activity

Volunteering for an Off-Site Activity

If you want to volunteer for an off-site activity, you can find more information on the Volunteer page (in the Get Involved section of our website).
