William Aberhart's Model UN and Debate Union

Welcome to Model UN and Debate! A club where you can meet friends, develop leadership skills and public speaking skills, learn about diplomacy, international relations and the United Nations. The club meets weekly for practices on Mondays after school. There is a tournament every month you can sign up for. The dates of the tournaments are posted on the club’s Google Calendar and in class.

*A note to parents for debates only: At least one parent is expected to attend and assist at any tournament your child signs up for

Aberhart's Technology Club

The Abe Tech club is finally here! Finally the technology-savvy kids of the school to create a resource for everyone. If you would like to contact us directly or for any reason other than those covered by the forms, please shoot us an email at technologyclub.abe@gmail.com and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

*Donations are gratefully accepted in the form of food or otherwise

For those interested in participating, we hold casual meetings on Mondays during lunch in room 310. We welcome all people from any technology field such as Stage tech, Photography, Programming, Hardware, Software (i.e. AutoCad, Photoshop, Premiere), as well as anyone who wishes to learn! We make an active effort to pair those who want to learn with somebody who has experience at the earliest possible opportunity.

We will also be holding workshops throughout the year on different aspects of technology, like helpful tips for your calculator, so keep your eyes peeled for posters near our job board. And if you couldn't tell from that last line, the Technology Club has a job board as well! It can be found outside room 310, and jobs posted there are open to applications from anyone in the school community. A separate stream of jobs will be offered to members only. If you still have questions, please talk to Tim, Tauran or Nathan for more details.

Queer-Straight Alliance

ABE’s Queer-Straight Alliance was launched several years ago, making it one of the first of its kind in Calgary. It was created to provide a safe, welcoming space for students who identify as queer, are questioning their sexual identity, or who simply wish to show support for their fellow students.

The QSA discusses everything from queer history to feminism to current events, and activities can include everything from movie nights, to guest speakers, to craft sessions, and bake sales. With consistently high turnout at meetings and discussions, the QSA is a welcoming and supportive environment for all students, especially for those who belong to a gender or sexual minority.

Meetings are in room 323 during the lunch break on Wednesdays where students will find an assortment of teas. Please bring a mug.
