Digital Citizenship at Acadia School

Student Learning

For teachers and students at Acadia School, digital technology is an important part of their school experience.  Technology tools are used to gather and organize information and create and share ideas.  As staff of Acadia School, we use technology daily, in a variety of ways, connected to student learning.  The outcomes for student learning connected to Digital Citizenship are embedded in the appropriate curricular areas and during regular access to technology in the classroom. 

Student Safety

Our goal is for students to use technology safely and responsibly in the school and beyond.  Through improved wireless connectivity in the CBE, we are better able to provide technology opportunities.  As students engage in learning that includes technology with teacher support and supervision, students can practice digital citizenship.  The following safety measures are employed at Acadia School and the acceptable use of electronic devices has been communicated to students:

• The school has an acceptable use policy modeled on Administrative Regulation 1062 - Responsible Use of Electronic Resources
• A level II filter is employed
• Teachers will supervise students while accessing online resources

When I use technology I will…

• Treat others the way that I wish to be treated
• Keep in mind that my technology use affects others
• Be a good citizen and not do anything that hurts people
• Remember that I need to balance technology with other activities
• Tell my parents, teacher or responsible adult right away if I come across any information that makes me feel uncomfortable
• Not respond to any messages that are mean or that make me feel uncomfortable – I will tell a responsible adult right away so they can help me
• Treat digital tools with respect and care and let a responsible adult know if something is not working properly
• Not give out my password or use another another’s password to access things that are not mine
• Check with an adult before downloading or installing

If I choose to bring personal devices to school:

• I understand that the school is not responsible for loss, theft or damage to my personal device
• I will respect the privacy of my classmates.  I will only record myself or my own work, and not my classmates
• I understand that the school cannot provide technical support
• I will use my own device for educational purposes in the classroom only with the permission of my teacher
