Health & Wellness at the CBE

At the CBE, we believe in a whole school approach to health and wellness. We call this our Comprehensive School Health (CSH) approach. CSH is about healthy eating, active living, supportive social environments and positive mental health. As a system, we focus on the following four areas: healthy eating; healthy relationships; physical activity; and positive mental health. Each school creates its own approach and goals for health and wellness.

Care of the Environment

Our school is proud of our actions to reduce our environmental footprint. We appreciate student and parent support for the following initiatives:

Recycling – Each class has a bin where students can reuse scrap paper. We pay for a bin to have this paper recycled. We also have plastics recycling at our school.

School–wide Composting – Everyone is encouraged to compost the following items: dairy, eggs, ground coffee, fruits and vegetables, teabags, grains, paper plates, napkins and paper towels as well as prepared foods

Garbage-less lunches – In an effort to reduce waste, we encourage students to bring snacks and lunches to school in re-usable containers. We discourage the use of prepackaged foods and snacks. We have no garbage cans in our lunchroom and students are expected to bring any garbage home with them.

Naturalization Area – Our school and parent community created a beautiful, innovative naturalization area, which is home to a wealth of native plant species (See website: www.raingarden.ca). Students are asked to be respectful of this area. We always need parent volunteers to help us protect and care for this magnificent space. Please contact the office at 403-777-8270 if you are available to help.
