​Regular Program at the CBE

Even though most of our schools offer a regular program, no two are quite the same. All schools teach according to Alberta Education’s mandated curriculum, however a school’s focus, optional courses and school activities are as unique as every school.​​​

Personalized Learning

At Altadore School, we believe in and welcome diversity. Our teachers adapt curriculum as required in order to meet the needs of students who benefit from specialized support in their learning. Some of our students are on Individualized Program Plans (IPP's) which allow teachers to adapt the Alberta Program of Studies. Some students will receive support from the learning support team and Education Assistants. We also work collaboratively with the CBE learning team and outside agencies to provide additional supports to students when needed and available.

Additionally, we recognize that all children learn differently and benefit from learning opportunities that are personalized specifically for their needs, strengths and areas of interest. Learning can look very different for individuals or groups of students in any given classroom. We welcome you to have an open discussion with your child’s teacher to discuss what this might look like for your child and how his or her unique learning needs will be addressed.

Homework

It is recommended by the Calgary Board of Education that children in Grades 1 - 3 complete 5 - 10 minutes of reading each night. For Grades 4 – 6, formal assignments may be required but should not exceed 20 minutes a night.

Parents/Guardians Vital to the Education Process

Parents play an important role in the education of their children. Their involvement and encouragement can help a child excel.

At Altadore School, we encourage parents to have a voice in their child's education. Our strong Altadore School Council, numerous volunteering opportunities in the classroom and outstanding community building events provide an opportunity for parents to have an active voice and to play an important role in their child's young life.
