The safety and security of our students is of primary importance. To achieve this, we work together to adhere to the following routines:

  • All parents/guardians and visitors are required to report to the office upon arrival at school. Staff members need to be aware who is in the building for safety and security reasons.
  • All of the doors to the school are locked. In order to check in with the office, please use the buzzer on the wall outside our front door. When the office answers, please turn around, look at camera and identify yourself.

Please see our Attendance page for information.

Student Entry and Supervision

Students may enter the school beginning at 7:50am. Students enter and exit through their designated doors. For safety reasons, children should NOT walk through the parking lot. Students are required to go home after dismissal at 2:40. Outdoor play supervision is not provided after school.

Lock Doors for Safety

All doors to the school are locked. Front door access is available using the intercom system. Please ring the buzzer and identify yourself to the office. Children arriving late need to come through the front doors. Parents are asked to enter and exit by the front door only.

School Closure

In the event of a power failure or other emergency, please check the school webpage, and listen to the radio for information from the CBE. An email would also be sent out using School Messenger.

Students Arriving Late or Leaving Early

When students arrive late, even by a few minutes, they need to: ‘sign-in’ as late, (binder on Office counter) and take a ‘late slip’ to the classroom. If you are picking your child up from school outside of regular dismissal times, please sign your child(ren) out at the office: there is a binder on the counter.

Parents Taking Photographs at School

We are sometimes asked why parents are allowed to take pictures at events such as the Christmas concert but not at other times when they are in the school (including when volunteering). Schools are not public places, as a result, during regular operation of schools, photographs are only taken as part of the school program for school.

When we specifically invite parents and members of the public to an event, the event becomes a public event. For our school, this often includes the Remembrance Day Assembly, Christmas Concert, the Farewell Assembly, open houses and specific evening events. These events are then considered public events and everyone is welcome to take pictures.

All CBE schools are required to practice lockdowns in the same way that we practice fire drills. The procedures for lockdowns are developed with the Calgary Police Service and are part of each school’s Emergency Response Plan. If you have questions about lockdown drills or lockdown procedures, please contact your principal.

Evacuation Procedures

In the event that the school needs to be evacuated for any reason, all staff have been trained according to CBE standards. All schools have a primary and a secondary evacuation site. In the event of an evacuation, you will receive an email, phone or SMS notification from the school.
