Halloween is around the corner. Due to the COVID pandemic, there will be no parent council Halloween sponsored dance. As a result, students will be allowed to wear their Halloween costumes to school on Thursday October 29th, 2020. Students must observe the dress code found in the student handbook: BHS Student Handbook 2020-21, and COVID masks will still be required. COVID masks will need to be incorporated into the costume, or worn in addition to your child's costume. No regular Halloween face masks are to be worn. Your child's teacher may be planning a literary theme for costumes. If your child chooses not to wear a costume, they can choose to wear black and orange, or choose to not observe the day.. This will be a regular day of classes. Students are to dress comfortably, as there will be no changing in the bathroom. CBE nutritional policy will still be observed and there will be no sharing of candy. October 29th is a full day of school. Students will be required to wear their costume all day. The following day is a professional day for teachers, and there will be no school on Friday, October 30th.
Meeting spots for grade 1- 4 will be changing this week. Many classes that were previously meeting on the hill will move down to the compound now that construction is finished. This change should make it easier for parents and students to see their teacher when dropping off and picking up. We ask that parents continue to wear masks on school grounds and that you drop your child off on the sidewalk or perimeter of the school ground. Attached you will find a new location map with meeting spots. Please check your child's teacher blogs for additional details. We thank you all for your consistency in following this safety precaution. While it is hard, we know this expectation is helping to keep our students and community safe. This is especially true for those with additional health considertions. There will be new CBE COVID protocols and updates coming out next week. We will keep you infomred of any changes.
We may still have some additional changes to staffing happening in November. These will be additions to our staffing compliment here at the school and changes to classroom configurations should be minimal. These changes will mostly be in the form of resource support and changes to Educational Assistant hours or the addition of a support teacher.
Many parents have been mentioning traffic concerns to me and we remind you to observe the policies found in the handbook. (link found above). Parent council will be sending a traffic letter home shortly. This is just a reminder to keep intersections and crosswalks free, and to refrain from double parking and u- turns. Due to COVID and staggered entry and dismissal, there will be no student patrols this year. Should parents observe infractions, we ask that you phone 311 with your concerns. We have had Calgary Police ticketing happening as a result of your calls..
Please mark the date! November 19 and 20, 2020 are student involved conference dates for Beddington Heights. Kindergarten will be holding conferences over both days. Grades 1 - 4 will be holding conferences in the evening of the 19th and during the day on the 20th. Interpreters have been booked for some interviews. If an interpreter has been booked for your family, you will receive a call closer to the date. Student Learning Plans will be reviewed with goals set for literacy, numeracy and personal well being. These goals will the be reviewed again in the spring. We are looking at a virtual format for these interviews. More information will be coming shortly.
