Students are expected to conduct themselves in a mature, co-operative, respectful manner while in attendance at Bowness High School. Bowness High School has a friendly, family-like atmosphere and the positive contributions of all students and staff is needed to continue to make Bowness a great place to learn.

Students will be held responsible to the Calgary Board of Education and Bowness High School staff for their behaviour and conduct from the time they leave home in the morning until they return home after school. This includes attendance at any school-sponsored activities and on the internet, in any vehicles used for the transportation of students to and from school or school activities, during lunch or Flex and after school. This is in effect both on and off school property.

Concerns or Problems

If students or their parents have problems or concerns, they are asked to follow the procedures listed below:

•  A student should speak directly to the person concerned (i.e. a
• teacher, or a fellow student).
• If a situation has not been resolved through discussion, parents or guardians are invited to speak with the teacher.
• If an issue with a student has not been resolved through discussion between students, students are invited to speak with Student Services Counsellors or an Assistant Principal.
• If the student or parents/guardians have not been able to resolve an issue, either the student or the parent is invited to contact the Principal.

Restricted Activities

Some behaviours result in suspension or in extreme cases, expulsion from Bowness High School. These include:

• Hazing or froshing (initiation of students for any reason)
• Preventing or interfering with the educational progress of others
• Threats, harassment, intimidation, abuse or fighting
• Being under the influence of, in contact with, or in the possession of drugs or drug paraphernalia or alcohol at school
• Use or possession of weapons or harmful objects
• Computer hacking or unauthorized use of the school or CBE name or student or staff names or photographs without explicit written permission of the school, CBE or person(s) involved
• Vandalism of school property
• Using obscene or abusive language
• Failure to cooperate with staff or being disrespectful to staff
• Endangering oneself, other students or staff
