International Students

Bowness High School is a school with a strong sense of community. Students have a mandatory five hours of volunteer service before they have fulfilled Bowness graduation requirements.  With Bowness High School sense of tradition and community, International Students feel very welcomed and quickly become involved with school and its activies.  Bowness has been a part of the international student program for a number of years and has developed a valuable understanding and tolerance of different cultures from the attendance and involvement of these students

Bowness High School has an extensive choice of courses that fulfill the needs and interests of every type of student.  All new International Students are enrolled in an ESL class, which not only teaches English but also teaches Canadian culture and helps students to feel more integrated in Bowness. Being immersed in both a new language and culture is an intimidating situation for students. The international program at Bowness provides a positive environment for these students to develop, not only their academic skills, but also their language acquisition and global awareness. Ms. Drechsler, the international coordinator, and a counselor work to set up an individual program that meets the needs of each international student
