History and Program Rationale

The Bowness High School Trades Centre of Excellence program is a source of pride around the program history and the students who are enrolled. This program is made available to students at Bowness in partnership with Industry employers. Our biggest supporter and contributor to the program is Stepper Homes. The project work that is completed will build many opportunities for our students to pursue a rewarding career in the Trades!!

This course is unique in that students are offered a program that partners students with various Tradespeople to learn knowledge, skills and attitudes that provide marketable skills in the Alberta workforce while working on projects that are constructed daily in the Trades.

This course is offered to students that are interested in pursuing skills in the Trades while remaining a Bowness High School student. This program offers a wide variety of Trades skill learning opportunities and will allow students to pursue their passion in a job site setting within the school.  Depending on the project work and skills required, students can learn from Tradespeople who work as Electricians, Plumbers, Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning Installers, Drywallers, Roofers, Framers, and the list goes on!

Every year the project work completed by students will meet the curricular needs while offering a networking opportunity with Employers who are invested in the Trades Centre of Excellence Program success. This could even mean employability opportunities for students looking to become apprentices in their desired Trade area.

Bowness High School welcomes students to enroll in the Trades Centre of Excellence who have successfully earned at least 5 Construction 10 Credits and are interested in learning more than carpentry skills. Contact the instructor, Mr. Bagnall for more information about the program and to find out about the exciting work students are completing in the Trades Centre of Excellence program at Bowness High School!
