Principal's Message

Weekly Principal's Message - September 7

Hello Braesiders!
I hope that everyone is doing well and that they have heard great things from their children about an amazing first week.
It was amazing to see all of the students – both new and returning. The students were all smiles and it was a wonder to see how they all fit into the new classes with their new teachers.
Our new student information system is getting up and running, but still has a few kinks to work out. This may be affecting things such as teachers using the School Messenger to send out their weekly newsletter. We hope to have everything up and running as soon as possible.
This weeks Principal Newsletter will be a long one, so let’s get right into it!
This year, we are going to be using daily blogs or secret Facebook groups instead of agendas. We did a trial run of this with a couple of our Grade ½ classes last year with great success, even with some skepticism to begin with. Your child’s teacher will be sending home information and permission forms to get started with this. I know you will find that you will end up with more valid information on your child’s day, as well as a safe way to engage with the classroom!
Our School Council Meets on the 2nd Tuesday evening of every month. This is a great way to engage with other parents, ask questions and get involved in a different way with your child’s school. The meeting begins at 6:30 and there is babysitting available.
One very important message is about volunteering in the school. We love volunteers, and we could not function without them. From volunteering in the school, on field trips, school council and so many other ways you can help. If you are at all around students, you will need a volunteer clearance. It is so important to obtain a police clearance BEFORE you need it, as it can take a number of weeks to complete.
Finally (For Now) please remember that there is no after school supervision. As such, it is important to ensure that there is someone at the school to pick up your children right at the bell.
There will be many other things that come up over the next couple of weeks, and I will try to ensure that I keep emails to a minimum!

RT @UsihChristopher: Student health is more important than perfect attendance and families are the ultimate decision makers when it comes to whether students attend school or not. If your child will not be attending, please notify the school and the absence will be excused. Thank you!

RT @yyCBEdu: We continue to take direction from @GoAHealth and at this time they have recommended schools remain open. We have updated the FAQs on our websites for parents and staff.
