Strategic Planning for 2019-20.

With every school year that passes, May and June are the time when we analyze what has been done at the school level over the course of the year, and carefully consider what can be maintained as well as what needs some adjusting for the upcoming school year. It is important to note that this year our planning has required extra considerations.

As you may be aware, our staffing models have been affected by the delayed provincial government budget announcement, resulting in some necessary staff reductions and class size variances as mandated by the CBE. These changes will be revisited in the fall when the provincial budget is announced. Depending on the budget outcome, the CBE will then determine what next steps will be necessary to best meet the educational needs of all students from that point forward. To that end, I would like to draw your attention to read the entire newsletter for what is on the horizon next year!

Class lists have been analyzed for next year to bring a better balance to each classroom setting. Teachers have spent an entire day during our last organizational day in May to create these settings. Please note that a great deal of time and consideration is put into organizing classes. While our emphasis is on addressing the diverse needs of each child, we are also cognizant of the responsibility we have to organize the school in a way that meets the needs of our entire student population. Your child’s teacher, in consultation with other teachers and administration, has met to begin discussions about the best class placement for each and every student for next year. Please note we will not accept parent requests for teacher-specific student placements in any grade.

Student Enrolment for 2019 -20

The 2019/2020 school year projections are as follows:

Grade

Kind.

Grade 1

Grade 2

Grade 3

Grade 4

Grade 5

CSSI

Total

Number of students

100

100

101

96

113

134

6

650

Although our student projections for 2019-20 have been posted as 650, we currently have approximately 666 students registered for next year. We are unsure if that number will be sustained as ongoing information continues to come in about students leaving the program for various reasons (moving, discontinuing in TLC, special placements, etc.). It is imperative that parents let us know if plans are changing for their children next year as soon as possible as it affects our staffing decisions for next year.
