Traffic Safety

Ensuring our students get to school safely is everyone’s responsibility. Please be mindful of crosswalks, parking rules and speed limits when you are near our schools, especially during the morning drop-off and afternoon dismissal times.

Parking & Drop-Off

We continue to address some driving challenges on Burgess Drive, including cars parked that encroach on the Hug & Go Zone, some U-turns at the corner of the drive and neighbours requesting respect of their private driveway. We ask that parents choose Safety Over Convenience for the well-being of our students and the neighbourhood.

Parking Lot is Off Limits

Our staff parking lots are the most dangerous area of the school, especially around the start and end of the day. Despite posted signs, reminders from staff and frequent reminders in the newsletters, parents continue to place their own needs ahead safety requirements.

  • Do not use the parking lot for student drop off or pick up.
  • Parent parking is available on the street only.
  • Do not park or stop in the school bus zone (from the staff parking lot entrance to the end of the field, along Northmount Drive))

Use the Drop and Go Zone

If you use the Drop and Go Zone on the south side of the school, follow these three steps:

  1. Travel west on Burgess Drive
  2. Drop your children off without exiting your vehicle
  3. Go – move along quickly to allow the next vehicle to proceed.

Hug & Go Update

Thank you to the parents who are using our Hug and Go drop off area at the back of the school. We are concerned about child safety when parents park on the other side of the road from the Hug and Go area and send their children across the road. Children are walking across the road from between parked cars and are very hard to see from the cars driving around the corner. If you park on the opposite street, please take your child by the hand and walk them across the road.
We continue to address some driving challenges on Burgess Drive-cars parked by parents encroaching on the Hug & Go Zone, some U-turns at the corner of the drive and one neighbour requesting observance of their private driveway. We request that parents review ‘SAFETY OVER CONVENIENCE’ for the safety of our students and of the neighbourhood. Also, please use as intended Drop and Go, don’t park! Thank you.
