June 2020

Welcome to June Buffalo Rubbing Stone families!

As usual, June is a busy month as we wrap up one school year and prepare for another.  Ongoing learning continues with work in literacy and math for kindergarten to grade 3 students and literacy, math, science, and social studies for grades 4 and 5 students.  Sadly, there will not be any opportunity to gather as a school community before the end of the year.  We are preparing some video farewell messages.  While it’s a peculiar way to celebrate the year’s accomplishments and say our good-byes, it is our reality.  I’m confident we can honour the students and their work well in this format.  We will schedule student material pick-up beginning June 8th.  Please log into your MyCBE / PowerSchool account as though you were planning to book a conference.  Select “pick-up” from the drop-down menu, then choose your date and time by adding one of your children’s names to the schedule.  Plan to pick up all your children’s materials in the same 10-minute spot.   During your 10-minute spot, one adult from your family will come into the gym to pick up all your children’s work and personal belongings.  Please honour all the good health protocols to keep yourself and others safe.  Report cards will be online on Friday, June 26th.  We will not be printing hard copy report cards.

Thinking ahead to September, we have not yet had direction from the Province regarding re-opening protocols.  Please be sure to participate in the CBE  2020-21 Re-entry Survey for Parents.  Your voice is an important part of the decision making process.  The survey will be open until June 11th.

We anticipate our student population for 2020-21 will be 625 students.  If you know you will be moving over the summer, please let us know ASAP.  Our 2020-21 Organization for Learning is as follows:

4 – kindergarten classes (approx. 20 students each)

10 – grades 1/2 classes (approx. 20 students each)

10 – grades 3/4 classes (approx. 23 students each)

4 – grade 5 classes (approx. 25 students each)

1 – grades 1-5 Enhanced Educational Supports class (9 students) (replaces TASC)

You will receive an email from your child’s teacher on Monday, August 31st before school starts on Tuesday, September 1st.  Teaching assignments and class lists frequently change over the summer so no information is available before August 31st.

There will be a few changes to our school hours in the fall.  Monday through Thursday school will dismiss at 2:40 pm and the lunch break will be 44 minutes. The Friday kindergarten times will align with the whole school.

The 2020-21 school calendar and school hours will be on our Buffalo Rubbing Stone website soon.

That’s all for now.  We think about you every day and really enjoy the time spent together in Google Meets.  We deeply value everything parents are doing to support student learning.  We are all doing our best.  I am grateful for our work together so far and I am looking forward to an engaging last month of school.

Take good care,
