June | 2021-2022 School Year End Updates

June 27, 2022

Dear Escuela Canyon Meadows Families,

The 2021-2022 school year has come to an end and with excitement we welcome the summer break! 2021- 2022 was another year in which we all demonstrated courage, kindness and resilience. The unconditional care and support from Escuela Canyon Meadows families and the commitment, hard work and perseverance of our staff allowed us to accomplish another successful school year within the context of a pandemic. Making all efforts to ensure the health and safety of our students has been of utmost importance at our school, with the support of our parents/guardians. Thank you so much! “¡Muchas gracias!”

We proudly say goodbye to our grade 5 students. On June 23 we gathered as a community with our grade five families to celebrate their accomplishments. We were able to pay tribute to these wonderful students through an in-person Farewell celebration. It was fantastic to have our parent community back in the school!

I welcomed our grade five students during my first year at Escuela Canyon Meadows as Assistant Principal. It was an honour to see them grow during their first six years of schooling. Sra. Gutiérrez, our Assistant Principal had the privilege to teach many of our grade five students in their grade two and grade four experiences. We now send them off to middle school with incredible second language skills and more maturity and wisdom. We are certain they will make us all proud! ¡Bravo estudiantes de quinto grado! Felicitaciones.

June is also a time of the year in which we say goodbye to some staff members and welcome others.

Staffing Updates

We bid a fond farewell to:

- Sra. McKenzie is retiring from the CBE bringing her very successful career as a professional educator to a partial close. Sra. McKenzie will be a substitute teacher commencing Sept. 2022.

- Srta. Dalke has accepted a position at Eugene Coste School.

- Sra. Harms finishes her temporary contract as Music Specialist.

- Sra. Palacios finishes her contract as an Education Assistant.

We extend a warm welcome to:

- Sra. Switzer who has already returned from leave on May 2022.

- Sra. Ramirez who is joining our teaching staff.

- Srta. Cotton who is joining our teaching staff, Music Specialist.

Grade Configuration for 2022-2023

At this time, we anticipate that we will have the following grade configurations:

Kindergarten 4 classes (2 morning, 2 afternoon)

Grade 1        3 classes

Grade 2        3 classes

Grade 3        4 classes

Grade 4        3 classes

Grade 5        2 classes

Please note that our grade configurations are dependent on the number of students returning to ECM for Fall 2022, therefore, grade four and grade five may need to be combined into five classes of grade 4/5 students if needed.

Upon our return from the summer break, week of August 29, our teachers will welcome students to their homeroom classes by sending a Welcome Letter via email to parents/guardians.

Thanks to our gracious School Council for their fundraising efforts during this difficult time. We are thrilled and thankful to have been able to welcome volunteers back in the school this year.

We are looking forward to the 2022-2023 school year! We wish every family a joyful summer.

See you Thursday, September 1, 2022! ¡Los esperamos con toda alegría!

Saludos cordiales,

Sra. Lilien Perera Pérez, Principal

Sra. Cecilia Gutiérrez, Assistant Principal
