December 2022

¡Hola familias!

December Update

The holiday season has arrived one more time, and with that, the time to stop to enjoy precious moments with our families. This Fall at Escuela Canyon Meadows we continued to thrive to provide our children with high quality bilingual education and most of all, a welcoming, caring, respectful and safe place to learn.

During the month of December, we have enjoyed Holiday Spirit days on Fridays wearing fun festive clothing to celebrate the season. Our grade 4 and 5 students proudly led the food drive campaign to help those in need and to give our school community the opportunity to engage in acts of kindness and identify with the needs of others. Some of our students also made amazing holiday cards for the seniors in the Manor Village at Fish Creek Park. This project will delight, cheer, and 'glitter'  the seniors who received the student-created cards delivered by our grade 5 students during their Holiday Tour. We are pleased our students and teachers continue to engage in this act of kindness. Our Kindergarten to grade 4 students and teachers shared their Winter Concerts the week of December 12. It was a joy to welcome parents / guardians and grandparents back into our school for this event. Srta. Cotton, homeroom teachers and students are proud of celebrating their accomplishments with families.

Staffing Update – Learning Disruption Support

CBE received funds to provide additional support for students identified as at risk based on Alberta Education Literacy and Numeracy assessment data gathered in the spring of 2022 (students currently in grades 2, 3 and 4). These funds will be utilized for learning intervention commencing Jan. 9, 2023 and ending March 24, 2023. Escuela Canyon Meadows received a part time teacher allocation to support this learning intervention.

Sra. Bianca Scott has graciously accepted the part time position at our school from Jan. 9 to March 24, 2023. Sra. Scott has provided substitute coverage at ECM, she knows our students and is excited for this opportunity. Sra. Scott will provide release time to grades 2, 3, and 4  on Tuesdays, Thursdays and alternating Fridays for the teachers to facilitate the learning intervention for students at risk in Numeracy. Grades 2, 3, and 4 students at risk have already been receiving Literacy intervention with Sra. Switzer during this Fall term. Sra. Switzer's intervention will continue until June 30.

We welcome Sra. Scott with excitement and look forward to having her join our Escuela Canyon Meadows community in the New Year.

Ready, Set, Registration! - For new students.

Please share with family and friends about our school and invite them to attend our in-person Open House on January 12, 2023 at 6:30 pm.

Kindergarten registration will begin Monday, Jan. 16, 2023. The registration pages on the CBE corporate website have been updated for a more accessible and streamlined registration process. CBE has also launched new and revised help pages for MyCBE and SchoolEngage. The help pages can answer frequently asked questions and help parents/guardians navigate through the platforms more efficiently.

Additionally, the Kindergarten Registration Guide is a valuable resource to help parents/guardians prepare for registration.
