March Message

Acts of Kindness

During the month of March, our students and teachers have engaged in the “Actions from the Heart" (Acts of Kindness)- “Acciones del corazón" initiative created by our Student Advisory Group and “The Kindness Window" initiative created by Sra. McNelly. Our Student Advisory Group created “The Golden Bucket Award" for the grade accumulating the highest number of “Actions from the Heart". Students and teachers are “filling their classroom bucket" with colourful pompons every time an action of kindness takes place. With the support of some of our students and their Lunch Supervisor, a colourful bulletin board has been created around the office area to make this initiative visible.

Parent/Teacher/Student Learning Conferences

In March, our final Parent/Teacher/Student Learning Conferences also took place, it was another time to celebrate our students' accomplishments in their learning. During this past Conferences, parents had the opportunity to learn about their child's progress and achievement in relation to the outcomes of the Programs of Study. We recommend to continue going through your child's Google Classroom, IRIS, and assignments posted in Power School (access through MyCBE parent account) to stay informed. Parents celebrated the outstanding art work, writing, etc. beautifully displayed around our school. We thank our parents for the feedback and comments shared such as “the school looks like an art gallery", “the school is beautiful". Your feedback helps us improve our teaching practice and also enlightens our day.

“The Riddle and/or the tongue twister of the Week" Initiative

The Spanish Language and Culture Committee lead by teachers has taken the initiative to create “The Riddle and/or the tongue twister of the Week". Our students and teachers have enjoyed solving Spanish riddles created by our students and learning diverse tongue twisters in Spanish. Our students enjoy gathering around the loudspeaker phone in the office on Fridays to share their riddle responses and to say the tongue twisters. It is a joy to listen to our students speaking in Spanish with confidence, fluency and accuracy.

Spring Artist in Residence

During the last two weeks of April and beginning of May our students and teachers will be engaging in an Art residency with Indigenous Knowledge Keeper and Artist Jackie Wabasca. As we continue to honour our Escuela Canyon Meadows Commitment to Truth and Reconciliation in alignment with the CBE Education Plan, we are looking forward to this learning opportunity. Indigenous Artist Jackie Wabasca will take us through the journey of Indigenous Storytelling incorporating various types of dances.

In May we will invite our parents/guardians to join their child's classroom at a time during the school day to celebrate our students' learning throughout this residency. More details such as date and time of this classroom celebration of learning will be communicated in April.

Immense gratitude goes to Escuela Canyon Meadows gracious School Council for their continuous appreciation for our teachers by providing a special dinner during March Student Learning Conferences, funding to lower the cost parents pay for residencies and for covering the cost of transportation for Field Trips.

Thank you for supporting our March Scholastics Book Fair, our students have enjoyed to be able to purchase books in-person with the gracious support and coordination of our Library Assistant Sra. McNelly and parent volunteers.

Thank you to all our parents/guardians for your consistent valuable support, care and love, we could not do the work we do without you!

We wish everyone a restful and joyful spring break. Take the time to create many new memories with your loved ones.

With gratitude,

¡Nos despedimos compartiendo mucha gratitud!
