What did you do in school today?

Children often have difficulty expanding on their explanation of their school day when asked, “What did you do in school today?” Please know this is entirely normal. In order to start a conversation about your child’s learning try the alternatives below:

  1. What did you do at school today? – Instead try – Tell me about the best part of your day?
  2. What did you learn today? – Instead try – I saw on your teacher’s blog you are learning about ________. That sounds really interesting. Can you teach me something about this topic?
  3. Can you‘say-sing-speak’ something in Spanish? – Instead try –I saw on the blog that you are learning some new Spanish words this week. She/He didn’t mention what they were. Can you think of which words that she/he may be talking about?
