Vision

We envision a school community which values, and respects diversity, human development and learning. Our work fully engages all students, honors individual strengths and interests, and provides meaningful, rich learning experiences.

Mission

Our mission as a school community is to educate students to develop into responsible citizens. We do this by working together to create a safe and respectful community where individual uniqueness is celebrated. We do this so that we become lifelong learners who make meaningful contributions to society.

Purpose

It is our intent to:

  • Design learning environments that reflect good teaching and learning practice. 
  • Develop relationships based on respectful treatment of all people. 
  • Discover that which is truly unique and wonderful about each individual. 
  • Direct our energies toward community and the common good. 
  • Determine ways in which each learner can meet with success.

School Song

The Captain John Palliser song was created, in 2009.  A man named Bobby Boogaloo (children's entertainer and songwriter) came to CJP.  He worked with each of the classes to brainstorm ideas about what was important at our school, and through that process created the lyrics for the song.  He set it to the simple chord progression and then came with recording equipment and we all gathered in the gym to record it with him.


Who Was Captain John Palliser?

Captain John Palliser School honours the name of an Irishman who was commissioned by the Royal Geographical Society to lead an expedition to the land that we know as western Canada. In the years 1857 -1860, his task was to explore, map and report on the general state of these western territories for possible settlement. As a scientific expedition, Palliser and his colleagues - Hector, Bourgeau, Sullivan and Blakiston accumulated a huge wealth of knowledge and information about this new land.

Palliser determined that the south western prairies were an extension of the central- American desert and thus, were unsuitable for agriculture. This piece of land, stretching as far east as the Manitoba border, west through southern Saskatchewan and into southern Alberta is known as the Palliser Triangle.

As explorers traveling unknown lands by canoe, horse, Red River cart, dog-sled and on snow-shoes, Captain John Palliser and his colleagues serve as strong role models for us. We are proud to bear his name as we explore, discover and imagine at Captain John Palliser School.

School Development Plan

​Each year, our school prepares a development plan with input from teachers, school staff, students and parents. We review many sources of data, including report cards, provincial achievement test results and school surveys. Based on this information, we create our plan identifying targeted areas for growth. Our school development plan is not meant to represent all of the work that takes place in our school, but rather it focuses on specific areas for improvement.​​​

School Results Report

Our school also prepares a results plan, which looks at our previous school year. It shows our students’ achievement and progress in meeting the goals and outcomes as set out by the CBE and Alberta Education, outlines some of the highlights of our school development plan and gives an overview of our school.
