Student Learning Updates and Conferences

We are pleased to announce that Mrs. Paula Kersch will be joining our Cecil Swanson Staff as our Administration Secretary. Mrs. Kersch, comes to us with lots experience in administration both at schools and in industry. She has worked with students of all ages and is going to be a great asset to our school community. Mrs. Kersch’ s first day at Cecil Swanson will be Monday, March 2. Please feel free to stop by and introduce yourself and welcome Mrs. Kersch. Once again we would like to thank Mrs. Harper for her years of excellent service and dedication to our Cecil Swanson families.

On March 13, you will be receiving a Student Learning Update. This update will provide you with current strengths and next learning steps for your child. The March learning update will focus on Mathematics and English Language Arts. This update will also highlight the necessary conditions for success for your child.

In conjunction with the Student Learning Updates are March Learning Conferences. The March Conference is an opportunity for you to meet with your child’s teacher and discuss his/her progress and achievement in relation to the learner outcomes from the Programs of Study. These Learning Conferences are focused on evidence of individual student learning (examples of student work, student reflections, etc). The MyCBE booking system will open up on March 12, 2020 at 8:00 AM. Please use this system to book an appointment with your child’s teacher.

Congratulations and good luck to: Jacob (Grade 5), Angad (Grade 5), Simrit (Grade 5) and Samslehsa (Grade 6). Our finalists of our School Science Fair are polishing up their projects and preparing for their competition for the Calgary Youth Science Fair in April. A big thank you goes out to Ms. Vuong, Ms. Ford, Ms. Krygier, Ms. Valz, Ms. Putici, Ms. Peller, Ms. Belan and Ms. Liukaitis who organized another successful Science Fair this year.

If your child comes home and says to you that they do not have any home work, would you please ask them to show you their agenda. Some of our students do complete their assignments at school and some students need some extra time to finish at home. Our teachers send out a weekly email which outlines how you can help at home. The weekly email also outlines some “Ask Me About” topics. These topics provide you with information about what your child is currently learning. In addition, all students should be reading every night and our School Council has purchase Raz-Kids and Mathletics, which are on-line programs to help reinforce concepts taught at home.

On behalf of Cecil Swanson staff we want to thank you for your continued support in helping your child, “Be the Best You Can Be” and we look forward to seeing you at our next School Council Meeting, Tuesday March 3 at 6:30 PM.

Sincerely

Mr. Adam Topp, Principal
Ms. Joan Murtagh, Assistant Principal
