Principal's Message

It Was a Year Like No Other

“Every task, goal, race and year comes to an end…therefore, make it a habit to always finish strong.” Gary Ryan Blair
It was a year like no other as we pushed through and persevered through this pandemic. Thank you to the parents/guardians, teachers, staff and students for having patience and understanding as we worked through the uncertainties of what this school year brought us. As teachers and students wind down for another school year, I am amazed at the learning opportunities that our students have experienced over the past nine months. The support of School Council and the support from many of you have given our children experiences that they will never forget.
Our Grade 6 students are getting excited about finishing their final month with us.
If you are moving out of the Rundle area and your child(ren) will not be attending Cecil Swanson next school year, please let us know by calling the school office at 403-777-6690 ext. 0. This information is necessary for planning and organizing for next year. It also helps make the transition to a new school a lot smoother. Thank you for your assistance.
In June, teachers will begin to prepare class lists for next year. Our classroom placement process is very thoughtful, and staff members consider many factors before using their professional judgement to build classrooms that best meet student needs. To foster quality teaching and learning environments, we create classrooms with: A heterogeneous mix of students (achievement, citizenship and personal development), gender balance, a balance of children requiring additional support (ie; special learning needs, English Language Learns, etc.) and positive social relationships for each child.
Thank you to our School Council! Our School Council has been supportive all year. With their support, we have been able to enrich the education of our students. Our last School Council meeting is Tuesday, June 7. Please note that many School Council Members will be leaving as their children on moving on to Grade 7. We would like to especially thank Rebecca Mansfield, Stephanie Cassell and Katrina Turner who have been on our School Council Executive for many years. Thank you so much for enhancing the educational experience at our school.
As the weather gets warmer, we sometimes see students who are dressed more for the beach than for school. Please remember that students are expected to dress modestly (no short shorts, extra short skirts, bare tummies or tops that do not cover the shoulders). Students still require proper footwear for physical education. If your child is inappropriately dressed, we may phone you to bring other clothes or we may provide a shirt to cover up.
We cannot thank you enough for your continued support and good will. We feel very fortunate to work with parents who are so deeply committed to supporting their children’s learning.
As we wind down to the end of June, we hope you and your family will have the opportunity to enjoy some lovely evenings together and we wish you all a safe and happy summer. The first day of school for the 2022/2023 school year will be Thursday, September 1, 2022, with a staggered entry for kindergarten on September 1 and 2.
Sincerely,
Adam Topp, Principal Joan Murtagh, Assistant Principal
