Welcome Back to the 2021-22 School Year!

Hello Parents/Guardians,

Welcome back! We are thrilled to be back and we are excited to connect with each of our families.  We hope you had a wonderful summer.

All teachers have called their families to welcome them back to this school year and provide details about our first day of school.

First Day for Grades 1-6   Wednesday, September 1, 2021 – Full day

Teachers will greet students in the back school yard at 8:05 am.  Each teacher will have a sign with their grade and name.  Teachers will be phoning each family prior to the first day to inform you of your child's class.  Parents, please model social distancing and remain on the perimeter of the school yard.  Please send students with 2 masks on the first day.   If it is lightly raining, please send your child with an umbrella.

First Day for Kindergarten

We are looking forward to greeting our Kindergarten students over two days. Kindergarten students will meet outside of the Kindergarten doors on their assigned first day.

Have a Safe and Healthy Summer!

Hello Parents/Guardians,

We can hardly believe that this is our last full week of school.  What a school year it has been!  We want to thank each one of you for your support, understanding, flexibility, and kindness.

We wish a warm farewell to several staff members this year including Brianne Thompson, Aida Javed, Shelley Pears, and Marni Shoham.  Thank you for your contributions to Cedarbrae School.  You will be missed.

The office will be closed over the summer and will re-open on August 27.  Teachers will call all families prior to the first day of school to inform you of your child's class.  On the first day, we will meet at the back of the school.

We wish you all a safe, healthy, and relaxing summer vacation.  You all deserve it!

All the best,

Cedarbrae Staff

Principal Announcement

Hello Cedarbrae Families and Friends,

It is both with excitement and sadness that I am letting you know that I have accepted the position as Principal of Children's Village School commencing this week.

My four years at Cedarbrae has taught me much in terms relationships, and academic success. I wish to thank you for your support, kind words and all your encouragement over the years.  Cedarbrae is a strong community with amazing students and staff who will go on to achieve great things.

I am very pleased to share that Ms. Lisa Thomson will assume the role of Acting Principal effective immediately.  The hiring for a new Principal will commence as part of our fall staffing process, with the goal of having a new principal in place as soon as possible.  Education Director, Darlene Unruh has created a survey to seek your input into attributes we as a community are seeking in our new principal.  Staff, students and parents will have access via this link https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=hxMW71old0evNoC4_OTuc2Aj_nCUnD1LukcBxiD79f9UNjRBUjYzSlNMTUhYN0ZWSUZWNzJVT1hJSi4u

It has very much been an honour to serve this community.  I wish you and your families the best for the upcoming school year.

Sincerely,

Kristi Jardine

Budget

Dear Parents,

The Oct. 24 provincial budget left the CBE with a $32 million shortfall. As this is a mid-year cut, the CBE must act quickly to present a balanced budget to the Board of Trustees before January 2020.

Complex decisions are being made in a short time frame to balance our budget. One of the most difficult decisions is to end full-year temporary teaching contracts at CBE schools. Temporary staff were informed today, and the cuts will be effective January 2, 2020.

This budget decision impacts our school; some of our students are in classrooms with temporary contract teachers. While this decision may impact your child in January, please know we will continue to support positive transitions and effective teaching and learning. Continuity of learning is important, and we are working to minimize disruption to the greatest extent possible.

We are in the midst of making several other decisions to cover our budget gap and will update you as soon as possible.

Thank you

Kristi Jardine
