Clubs

ALL CLUBS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE DUE TO COVID

Your courses should always come first, but it is also important to be a part of your community outside of classes. You get to see teachers in a different light, work with people you share interests with and meet new people. Ms. Shaffer is the Learning Leader for student activities and leadership. Some opportunities include the following activities:

Leadership

Student Leadership is a fantastic way of connecting with the school, creating fun and meaningful events throughout the school year, and contributing to the communities outside of the school (locally, nationally and internationally). Some of our big events for the school year are: Rams Collective (an artisan market that supports student artists as well as a local cause), Battle of the Rams (supporting student musicians), and various student and staff led initiatives.

We welcome new members and are excited to see our returning students!!!

Model UN

High School Model United Nations is a club that provides students with an opportunity to participate in UN simulations with other high school students from across the province.

Students debate global issues from the perspective of their assigned nation and attempt to draft and pass resolutions that support their countries’ national self-interest as well as insuring international peace and security.

Through their participation in this club students have a great time and make new friends, all while gaining an understanding of the complexities of foreign policy. Students can select from a variety of subjects that will challenge their understanding of current global issues. Topics range from human rights, to international peace and security, and global health issues plus many others. Through the simulations, students gain skills in research, negotiation, formal writing, and public speaking. They participate in formal and informal debate, write resolutions, and conduct diplomatic negotiation, and most importantly, cooperation and communication.

GSA

Central Memorial students began a Gender Sexuality Alliance (GSA) in June of 2010. Over the past few years, we have coordinated events such as a the Alberta Provincial GSA Network Conference, Day of Silence, Anti-Bullying Week, Transgender Day of Remembrance, and have raised funds in support of Alpha House Calgary.

We would like to invite any students who are interested in becoming part of the GSA to join us. The goals of our group are to celebrate diversity, to discuss and advocate for human rights, organize awareness campaigns, and to provide a safe place in our school.

PAC - The Principal's Advisory Council

In the fall the principal puts out a call for students to apply to participate on PAC—The Principal’s Advisory Council. This council serves as student advisors to the principal and actions student led initiatives to improve and positively impact CMHS.
