Central Memorial High School has a strong and vibrant arts community. More than one-third of Central’s students are actively involved in our wide variety of arts classes and programs. Regardless of previous experience, if you are interested in the arts, Central is a good place to be.
There are two different streams of arts courses at Central, our General Fine Arts Program as well as the Centre for Performing and Visual Arts.
Our variety of General Arts courses provide students the opportunity to explore dance, tech theatre, drama, visual arts, strings, choral or band. Central’s General Arts program is a good fit for students who have a curiosity about or interesting in the arts and want the flexibility to explore a variety of other complimentary courses while in high school. With strong teachers and excellent facilities, Central’s General Program is a good option to consider.
If you have a strong passion for the arts and think you may want to pursue a career as an artist, consider auditioning for Central’s Performing and Visual Arts Program better known as PVA. This program of choice offers students from across the Calgary region the opportunity to study at an advanced level. It provides 1 ½ hours of arts instruction every day throughout your time in high school. PVA, students major in one or sometimes two of the following artistic disciplines:
- Dance
- Visual Arts
- Theatre Arts
- Fashion
- Media Arts
- Music
PVA prides itself on offering outstanding instruction, programming and performance opportunities. Studying in this program provides a strong foundation of arts education so that students can easily transition into post-secondary studies or professional work within the arts community after high school.
