The Spring Weather Makes it very Sloppy Outside!

If your child is one who often needs a change of clothes after playing outside, please have extra in their backpacks; especially pants, as we don’t have all sizes at the school.

Spring Concert News

Here are the dates for the Spring Concert:

On Wednesday, April 19 – Grades 2, 4 & 6 will be presenting the Spring concert at 6:30pm in the gym.
On Thursday, April 20 – Grades 1, 3 & 5 will present the Spring Concert at 6:30pm in the gym.

Kindergarten participation will be by the teacher. Mrs. Smith’s classes will attend on Wednesday evening and Mrs. Wynne’s classes will attend on Thursday evening.

Please note, the Kindergarten students will be performing at the beginning of the show and then will be able to sit with parents for the remainder of the show as an audience member.

We will need to limit the number of people who can attend based on fire codes. We will be sending out more information on this early in the week.

We have a Spring Concert Google Classroom:

Grade 3, 4, 5, & 6 students have been emailed an invitation to the Spring Concert Google Classroom. All grades will help sing 3 songs for our show with their grade group. I hope they are able to practice some of the songs at home!
Costumes: What should your child wear?
- Grades Kindergarten, 1 & 2: beach attire - floral-print or summery shirt or dress, sunhat, etc. (no swimsuits)
- Grades 3 & 4: rock n' roll theme - jeans, t-shirt, sunglasses, etc. Maybe a wild hairstyle if desired!
- Grades 5 & 6: semi-formal attire. If semi-formal doesn't work, dark pants and a light shirt, with no patterns/logos.
- ACTORS (5s & 6s) : regular clothes, as they are playing "themselves".
- DIRECTOR & ASSISTANTS: more formal attire.
- DANCERS (5s & 6s): dark pants, light shirt that feel comfortable for dancing. Semi-formal would work too as long as they can move easily in it.

School Arrival

We have had many students arriving late for a number of weeks now.

Classes start at 8:40am sharp. Our soft entry starts at 8:30am. Students are expected to be in class and ready to learn at 8:40am.

Students arriving at school after 8:40am will have to enter through the main doors of the school only. This is for safety and to ensure that they are marked late and not absent for the day. Teacher supervision at the doors ends at 8:40am as they need to be in class with the students. If the door is closed, your child will need to go to the front door please. Parents are responsible of making sure their children enter the building safely please. Thank you in advance for getting your children to school on time.

Child Safe Canada Babysitter's Course at Chaparral School

The last day to register for Child Safe Canada’s Babysitter’s Course is Thursday, April 13. There are only 9 spots left (first come, first served) Please bring your completed form and $54.00 (cash or cheque made out to Child Safe Canada) to the office. Students must be 10 or older to participate.

Traffic Safety

It has once again become important to talk about traffic safety. We have MANY families who are opting for convenient instead of safety. This includes mid-road, 3-point turns, ignoring the crossing patrols and driving on the sidewalk to name a few. There have been some very near accidents that put our students and community at risk. It is all of our responsibility to keep our students safe. Please follow road safety rules and help to keep our students and families safe. Bylaw is aware of these breaches and has indicated that they will be following up.

Next Meeting

Our next School Council meeting is Thursday, April 13 at 6:30pm in the Music Room. Grade 5 teachers will be presenting.

Popcorn Day

Popcorn Day is April 20. Last day to order is Saturday, April 15.
It is also our Spirit Day. The Gr 4s survey has us hosting Cozy Day! For Cozy Day, students are welcome to bring a blanket or stuffie, something that helps them to feel cozy…casual, comfy clothing is also appropriate.

Casino Fundraiser

The casino fundraiser is the biggest fundraiser we do at Chaparral School. It regularly brings in more than $60,000 to support purchases to enhance student learning. It requires many volunteers over a 2-day period. Our next casino is June 24 & 25 at Deerfoot Inn & Casino.
