Parental Involvement

Parent involvement is vital to our school program and enhances the educational opportunities for all children. We have a range of ways that parents may become involved and encourage both volunteering and involvement in our School Council.  Volunteering in the classroom, supporting special events and talking with your child at the end of each day about their learning are just a few of the many ways that parents can support the school community.

Volunteers

All volunteers must complete with the Calgary Board of Education’s Volunteer Registration process and the Calgary Police Security Clearance prior to volunteering in the building. The Volunteer Registration Form must be completed annually (school year) while the Security Clearance is valid for 5 years. Volunteer duties will vary depending on the area of the school in which volunteers are assisting and on the needs of teachers.

Volunteer Opportunities

Fun Lunch Volunteers

Chaparral School Fun Lunches would not be possible without the help of parent volunteers; we would love to have more volunteers available to assist with the next Fun Lunch date. Volunteers typically arrive around 11:50 AM and distribute the lunches to each classroom so it is ready when the children come in from recess; typically, 30 minutes of your time is required. Should you have a current CBE security clearance and would like to volunteer a bit of your time, please let us know by email to chaparralschoolcouncil@gmail.com.

Casino

Casinos represent the biggest fundraising event for Chaparral’s School Society. EVERY student at Chaparral School benefits from the funds generated at Casino events. Our next opportunity for a casino will be October 18 and 19, 2021. We need volunteers to help run the casino. If you would like to volunteer please click this link:  Sign-Up Genius - Volunteer for Chaparral School's Casino.

Volunteer with Us

Please visit our COVID-19 page for the most up-to-date information. Our plan is subject to change throughout the school year as more information becomes available.

We welcome volunteers in the classroom, on field trips and with certain tasks at school or at home. Certain activities or field trips would not be possible without the active participation of our volunteers. Contact us about ways you can volunteer with our school.

Visit the CBE website for more information on volunteering, including the required registration and Police Information Check. (Please note, guest speakers or visitors to the school, and parents/guardians assisting their own child only are not considered to be volunteers and do not require a police information check.)

Volunteering for an Off-Site Activity

If you want to volunteer for an off-site activity, please keep in mind:

  • Volunteers on an activity are considered representatives of the Calgary Board of Education and are subject to the same expectations as staff
  • Volunteers are subject to the requirements of CBE Administrative Regulation 5003 – Volunteers, which includes an application and a police security screening check
  • Volunteers are covered by the CBE’s liability insurance policy while performing their assigned duties
  • Volunteers are covered by WCB while performing their duties
  • Volunteers receive direction from and are accountable to the teacher-in-charge
