Classes & Departments

We are a dual track school, meaning two programs operate out of our building (Regular & French Immersion) but we are one learning community.

This section provides details on the range of subjects and classes offered at our school. All CBE programs follow the Alberta Programs of Study mandated curriculum which includes learning in the following core areas:

  • English Language Arts
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Social Studies
  • Physical Education
  • Arts
  • Languages

Physical Education

Gymnastics

From now until February 4th, students will be doing the movement gymnastics unit in our regularly scheduled Physical Education classes. Students will be working on mats and reviewing safety procedures as well as working with gymnastic equipment including the Canadian Climber. This will ensure a progression of skills from mat work to gymnastic equipment, culminating in a Mission Impossible course.

For safety reasons, we ask that you help your child to dress appropriately for the activity.

  •  Wear comfortable clothing to allow for easy movement.  Leggings, tights (no feet) or sweat pants and a t-shirt are ideal.  Please avoid loose fitting or baggy clothing.

·       Hair - Please ensure long hair is tied back with an elastic.  Students with long hair should have their hair tied back with an elastic or hair band.

·       All jewelry that could get caught on equipment should be removed (left in classrooms) or left at home (watches, rings, long earrings, necklaces, etc.)

·       Students wear indoor running shoes (first preference), bare feet or dance slippers.

Please see the attachment (righthand bar) for a copy of our “Head to Toe” gymnastics readiness checklist.

Also, for the safety of all:

·       Students do what they are comfortable doing, no showing off or daring is allowed.

·       Students work independently or in small groups quietly as noise can distract others and may cause falls.

·       Pyramid building is not allowed by the Calgary Board of Education for students in elementary schools

·       Some students may have had private gymnastics training however there will be no aerial stunts such as dive rolls, aerial somersaults or flips, head springs or hand springs as these activities do not fit into the gymnastics curriculum.

Please review these expectations with your children at home. All teaching staff have taken the CBE Canadian Climber Certification Course to help provide safe physical education classes for students. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher.

Thank you in advance for your understanding in helping to ensure the safety of our students.
