Online Access to Decodable Books
The CBE has just launched an online library featuring decodable books. This library is free to use and can be accessed at:
https://sites.google.com/educbe.ca/cbe-decodable-digital-library/home.
Decodable books are a great tool for students who are still learning how to read. The digital library is best suited for students in Kindergarten - Grade Two. However, it is a useful tool for students in the older grades who need additional practice sounding out words. Decodable books encourage students to decode unknown words, rather than looking at the pictures and guessing. They are organized by letter-sound relationships. This allows students to practice the graphemes they have been working on in class.
If you have any questions about how you can use decodable books at home, please reach out to your child’s teacher. Happy reading!
