Hello Chris Akkerman Families,
We are into our third month of the school year and we are so proud of our staff and students for their resiliency, hard-work and dedication to learning. Our in-class learners continue to come to school each day engaged in their work. Our HUB classes are running smoothly and it is amazing to see the learning happening online. We have such a wonderful community here at Chris Akkerman. Please read the important information below and review it with your children. We are excited for the next two months.
Remembrance Day is on Wednesday, November 11. There is no school for students this day. Our Grade 5 students and their teachers are busy preparing a wonderful Remembrance Day Ceremony for us to watch online. We will be participating in this ceremony on Tuesday, November 10 @ 10:45 am. If possible, please have students dress in their formal uniform on Tuesday. They can wear their regular uniform on Monday.
As mentioned in a previous email, conferences have been moved to December 3 from 3:30 - 7:30 pm and December 4 from 8:00 am - 1:00 pm. There will be no school for Kindergarten students on December 3 as the K teachers will be having interviews that day as well. More information will come from the school regarding registration. Meetings will be online using Microsoft Teams.
Virtues and Character Education
Character Education continues to be a vital part of TLC. In-class learners receive a minimum of 15 minutes of Character Education per day. During this time, we focus on learning about the virtue of the month (outlined in the agenda) and making connections. We celebrate the great learning each month in a Virtue Assembly put on by a specific grade. Due to the current circumstances, these assemblies are all done online on the last Friday of the month. Please ask your child to tell you about their learning during Character Education.
Our next school council meeting will take place on Monday, November 30 @ 6:00 pm on Microsoft Teams. Thank you to all of the amazing parents who attended in October and who took on a leadership role in the council. We couldn't do it without our parents! If you have any questions about council, please contact admin at the school office or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Further information will be sent out prior to our next meeting.
Our first break of the year is still a few weeks away but is from December 21 - January 3. The last day of classes for students before break is Thursday, December 17. December 18 is an organizational day for staff. Classes resume on Monday, January 4.
Safety in the school
We continue to follow all protocols from AHS regarding COVID-19. We emphasize distancing, hand-washing and masks. Please ensure you are completing the daily checklist for symptoms and keeping your children at home if they have any symptoms. Much more information can be found about this on the main page of our school website.
