Hello Chris Akkerman Families!
Welcome to March and hopefully warmer weather. It will be another month filled with amazing learning activities for your children. Please read the information below to stay current with the events happening in March.
Conferences - we have moved our conferences to March 11 and 12 to align with our HUB online conferences. If your child is in HUB, you will receive information from the system about booking conferences. For our in-class students, registration begins on March 8 at 7:00 am and closes on March 11 at 3:00 pm. All conferences will be online using Microsoft Teams. We are excited for the opportunity to meet to discuss the progress and growth your children have made. Please contact your child's teacher if you have any questions.
Virtue of the Month - the virtue for March is sportsmanship. Teachers will use this virtue to guide their teaching and engage in discussions with students about what this means and looks like. Please continue to ask your children what they are learning and discussing during Character Circle about this virtue.
School Council - thank you to our school council for their support in providing amazing opportunities and resources to support student learning. A reminder that all parents and guardians are invited to attend our online council meetings. Our next meeting is on Monday, March 22 @ 6 pm.
Important Dates - March 17 is St. Patrick's day and we will celebrate by wearing our best green clothing. The last day for students is March 25 as Friday, March 26 is a professional learning day. Spring break follows and students return to school on Tuesday, April 6.
Next Year - with the completion of our lottery process, we are looking at registrations and staffing for next year. If you are planning on not sending your child back to Chris Akkerman next year, please phone the office at 403-777-8120 to let us know. A reminder that all Grade 5 students automatically transfer to Sir Wilfred Laurier School for Grade 6.
Share Your Feedback on High School Scenarios
Parents, please know that your voice matters and I encourage you to become familiar with the two scenarios CBE has developed to balance enrolment at CBE high schools. The scenarios are intended to provide quality learning opportunities that allow students to meet the requirements to complete high school. They do this in three key ways.
- Provide a more equitable learning experience for all high school students.
- Maintain a regular program at every high school.
- Allow for alternative programs and academic enrichment when possible.
You can share your feedback on the scenarios in these ways:
- Idea Boards: March 1-17
- Virtual Sessions: March 2, 4, 8 and 10
- Online Surveys: March 2-17
We wish everyone a great month and a great Spring Break!
