Dear Chris Akkerman Families,
It is hard to believe we made it to June! There is still a lot of work to do and a lot of learning to happen. Please ensure your child is ready for learning each day, whether online or in-person. It's going to be a busy and fun month!
Every Child Matters - We are all troubled and saddened with the news of the remains of 215 children being found at a Residential School in BC. This is a time for us to reflect, and join Canadians across the country in honouring the lives lost and their families. As a school community, we will all wear orange on June 2, will pause for two minutes and 15 seconds in the morning and participate in discussions and work focused around this critical topic. Thank you for your support.
School Council - our last meeting was on May 31 and we discussed our school development plan. We want to thank all of the parents who participated in our school council this year. We can't wait until we can meet in person and hope to do that in the new year. Our first council meeting of the new school year will be on Monday, September 27.
Weather - just a reminder that students go outside for recess in all different types of weather. We will have extreme heat and cold, rainy days thoughout this month. Please have them dress accordingly.

Key Message from Superintendents: High School Proposed Plan
On June 1st, the CBE will share the proposed plan, informed by feedback gathered over the last two years along with CBE planning principles, available space and resources and financial sustainability. The plan balances enrolment in a way that provides the most positive impact for students overall, and reflects stakeholder feedback where possible in blending Scenarios A and B. When multiple schools are involved, all seven principles cannot be met for every school and each student. Parent and stakeholder feedback helped determine which principles should take priority. The final decision will be communicated by June 30th, 2021, for implementation in September 2022. People can share their feedback on the proposed plan through online surveys and idea boards June 1-13, 2021 at www.cbe.ab.ca/highschoolengagement .
Thank you to everyone again for a wonderful year during these difficult times. We are so grateful to be part of such an amazing learning community who always comes together to put student learning first.
