Dear Chris Akkerman Families,
It continues to be a busy time here at Akkerman with amazing learning opportunities.
Monday, February 14 - this is a day where we can focus on the virtue of this month (integrity) and our school theme of Say Something. Students are welcome to bring cards to school to share with other students. Please do not send any food on this day. Also a reminder that students do not need to wear their uniform on Monday and can wear red and white. It is also Fun Lunch (order deadline is February 8).
Wednesday, February 16 - French Carnavale. We are so excited for this day and to celebrate all of the amazing learning in FSL. Students will have the opportunity to participate in extra French learning, outdoor games and a special maple treat. Teachers have sent home information about this day.
February 17-18 and 21 - No school for students. Teachers will be participating in virtual learning development during Teachers Convention. We are excited to learn new things to implement in our classrooms. February 21 is Family Day.
February 23 - Pink Shirt Day. Students are encouraged to wear pink this day to celebrate belonging! It is a great day to stand united against bullying and ensure everyone feels welcome at school.
School Council Fundraising - thank you to our school council who continues to help us raise money for amazing learning opportunities. For the month of February, families are asked to take their bottles and cans to the Monterey Park bottle depot. Once there, please let them know it is for Chris Akkerman School and they will assist you. Our next meeting is on February 28 @ 6:30 pm. Please plan to attend as we review our School Development Plan and will be asking for parent input.
TLC Registration - Just a reminder that registration for our TLC program ends on February 15 at noon. Applications are sent in through email. Please visit our news story on our website for more information.
Health and Safety Update - all students should have received their rapid test kits and masks. Now, more than ever, it is important that anyone feeling unwell must stay at home. Students and staff must use the daily checklist to identify if they should attend or stay home.
Thank you!
Derek Siakaluk, Principal
