During the month of January and February students participated in a sensory based food studies program. They made playdough, jello jigglers, pudding and cinnamon/apple oatmeal. Some students participated in tasting and others enjoyed touching and feeling the various textures.

Warm water therapy has resumed this month on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. Two students usually go each day with 1:1 support by staff. Some of the students are also participating in the CMS Pool Challenge by completing laps.

During the recent cold weather, the class has had reduced attendance on some days. This has provided students with opportunities to receive more 1:1 programming with staff.

Please ensure that your student’s wheelchairs, straps, and clothing are cleaned regularly to prevent the spread of illness.
Shirt protectors are to be provided by parents and soiled ones will be returned in student backpacks so they can be replaced daily.

New and returning students have settled well into their classroom and have been participating in classroom routines and sensory-based learning activities. Each student has an individualized plan (IPP) which was sent home, as well as several informal goals that are focused on throughout the day. It is beneficial for the student if these goals are also carried out during non-school times as well.

This fall, we went for walks to observe and experience the changing season and engaged in sensory stories and experiences. Students have used adapted appliances to make simple, nutritious recipes including applesauce, vegetable soup, pudding and fruit shakes in food studies. In social studies students completed a small unit featuring the Acadians (Indigenous Studies), exploring their way of life including music and dance. In literacy students have been participating in sensory stories, the use of CORE Word vocabulary, pictures and sign language as well as the use of voice output devices. Students are participating and communicating during Music Therapy sessions which are held 1-2 times per week. The pool provides us with warm water therapy on Wednesday and Fridays and students appear to enjoy this. Students enjoyed a concert in the gym featuring the lively band “Hoja”. We have also been focusing on meeting the physical needs of students such as positioning in alternate seating, the use of standing frames, and walking.

We have some special activities planned for the upcoming Holiday Season during the month of December including the Policeman’s Ball on the last day of classes on December 21. School resumes on January 7, 2019.
