October is already behind us and we find it hard to believe November has arrived! Thank you to our School Council and the many volunteers for their continued work to enhance learning and teaching at Citadel Park School.
When students return home at the end of the day parents often ask, what did you do in school today? I have heard that often the answer is ‘nothing, or, I don’t remember’. Our teachers try to support these conversations with the classroom blog, so that you have a glimpse into what students are doing over the course of the week. Here are some questions to ask your child, after school, to get a conversation started:
- What was the best thing that happened at school today?
- What was the hardest thing you had to do today?
- What is the biggest difference between this year and last year?
- What is your favorite time of day at school?
At our upcoming November School Council meeting on November 13, we will share our 2019-2020 School Development Plan. We welcome all parents to this special opportunity to learn more about this important plan that we use to guide and focus our school towards student achievement and enhanced student learning.
Here is a glance at our goals for this year:
1. Literacy Goal: Students will demonstrate growth in their ability to develop, organize and express information and ideas through narrative writing.
2. Mathematics Goal: Students will demonstrate growth in their understanding of number.
3. Wellness Goal: Students will show improved resilience by using self-regulation strategies.
Come join school council on Wednesday, November 13th. Stand by for more information on how you can join this important meeting. For the first time, our council is planning to offer this meeting through FaceBook Live.
We are proud to announce that our little school has donated over $800 to the Terry Fox Foundation through our Toonies for Terry fundraiser. Recently, the ADmazing Coupon Book Fundraiser raised over $2100, which is about $1000 less than in previous years. The council will look at ways to promote this fundraiser next year or consider other options. Over the next couple weeks, please watch for our School Council’s Cookie Dough Fundraiser. This fundraiser promises to generate lots of smiles, awesome funds and impressive aromas in our kitchen’s! Also, please watch for Citadel Park School T-Shirts this month. Some of the details we are working out are as follows:
- $18.00 T-shirts
- $25.00 Athletic T-Shirts
- $30.00 Hoodies
- Option to “pay it forward”
- Purchases made online
- “try on” sample sizes
- All sizes will be made available
- Looking for a parent with a graphic arts background
November is full of many learning activities and events we would like to draw to your attention. Our Remembrance Day Assembly is scheduled for Friday, November 8th at 10:00. Special thanks to Mrs. Coutts, Mrs. Lake and Mr. Kim for their planning and organization of this important assembly.
Our Scholastic Book Fair starts on Wednesday, November 20th. Students will be given the opportunity to peruse the books on display in advance. Books will be ready for purchasing during our School Conferences. On Thursday and Friday November 21st and 22nd. During this conference we will be providing a blended approach where each set of parents will have a dedicated meeting with their child’s teacher(s) and where a child will be invited to share learning artifacts. Parents will be able to book conferences on Thursday, November 14th at 5:00PM.
Thank you for your continued support of teaching and learning at Citadel Park School.
