Parent-teacher conferences are an opportunity to engage in conversation about your child’s learning. Parents/guardians and teachers are able to connect face-to-face and communicate openly about student learning, especially with respect to areas of strength and areas of growth. They help build and sustain respectful relationships that allow both parties to share information and develop strategies to support student success.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

The September, November and March school conferences are opportunities to ‘check in’ with the teacher and may include scheduled Student-Led Conferences. All conferences are booked online. A formal written report card will go home at the end of January and the last day of school in June. Parents will be kept up to date on curriculum through the weekly blog. Please also know that you are encouraged to speak with your teacher about your child’s learning at any time.

A student- led conference follows a format or agenda in which your child is in charge and will lead the experience. Student-led conferences have many benefits for both the students and parents. Students benefit by accepting responsibility for sharing their progress in learning to their parents. The student will share the work they have produced, demonstrate problem solving strategies, communicated their understandings, and self-reflect on their progress.

Parents benefit by seeing their children as enthusiastic learners who are capable of communicating what they are doing and how well they are doing at school. Most important, parents have the opportunity to ask their children questions, provide lots of encouragement and positive feedback for their learning, hard word and effort. Student-led conferences should last approximately 45 minutes for your child to show you everything they are planning to share. Please try not to rush them as this is a really big day for them. Children love to share what they know and what they are learning. During the allotted  one hour time block, parents will have the opportunity to connect with the classroom teacher for a face-to-face conversation.
