Good afternoon Colonel Irvine Community,

We are pleased to share that your child will be coming home with a rapid test kit today. More information about the tests, how to use them and what to do with the results are posted on the Alberta Government website, including videos about how to use the test and a fact sheet translated into multiple languages.

We will also have disposable medical-grade masks available to students at the school. Masks are available in all classrooms and the main office. Staff will be at the entrance of the school each morning with masks as well.

Effective today, we are not requiring students to change for physical education classes for the next 2 weeks. This will help to keep students more physically distanced. We will continue to monitor this and inform students when we will go back to using the change rooms.

COVID-19 Alberta Health Daily Checklists

  • It is strongly recommended that household contacts of positive COVID-19 cases who are not fully immunized, stay home for 14 days from the date of last household exposure.
  • Alberta Health guidance indicates that fully immunized individuals who experience "core symptoms" are required to isolate for 5 days from onset of symptoms or until symptoms resolve, whichever is longer AND must wear a mask for up to 5 days after their isolation period if you are outside of the home in a public place or otherwise in the company of other persons out of your household (no exceptions permitted).  Unfortunately, it is not operationally possible for us to accommodate students who require a private space to eat following isolation.  For this reason, we will apply the consistent use of a 10 day absence prior to return to school, for both immunized and non-immunized students.  AHS has recommended this as an acceptable approach for schools.

No COVID-19 Notifications

  • At this time, no notifications will be sent by the school to families regarding reported results of rapid tests or PCR tests.
  • The prevalence of the Omicron variant is high and it should be assumed that exposures occur in all areas of the community, including at school.

Attendance

  • Students who are absent due to COVID-19 related symptoms and positive cases (regardless of variant) will be marked IL (illness).
  • Students whose parents indicate they are not attending because of concerns regarding the pandemic and the current state of the Omicron variant, will be marked OM (Omicron concerns).

We'd like to thank parents/guardians for your patience as we navigate the current covid situation.

Thank you for your continued support.

Ms. Ko and Ms. Dalwood
