The Week Ahead - March Break

Good afternoon Colonel Irvine School Community,

Firstly, we'd like to say a big thank you to everyone who volunteered for our school council's casino. Your time is very much valued and appreciated. It's so amazing to have such caring committed parents as part of our school community. Special thanks to Sarah Wong our casino fundraiser coordinator.

Thank you also to our students and families for supporting our bubble tea fundraiser and dance. We also had a couple of parent volunteers who came in to help us with our class photos. Thank you to Ms. S. Mak and Ms. A. Lovan for helping us out. Together we get to build and foster a strong school community.

Students were really engaged in activities such as construction, foods, board games today and our first of the school year dance was a big hit. We raised over $600 from the dance alone for the Drop-In Centre. We held locker cleanout, and the Grade 7-9's had Wellness and Indigenous block. In Wellness, we discussed what contributes to our identity. We discussed the identities of Race and Gender in more detail, with a focus on: “How do we create safe spaces for everyone?" Please ask students what are the many aspects of identity? We have asked for student feedback on aspects of identity that they want to learn more about in future lessons.

We hope everyone is enjoying and taking advantage of the beautiful weather. It looks like we will continue to have pleasant weather next week. We hope families will get to spend some quality time with each other. Teachers will not assign any new work or assignments for students over the break. We want our students to be able to relax and enjoy the week off. Students should finish work that needs to be completed. On that note, you will not be receiving a weekly message from your teachers this week. Instead, it will be sent on Sunday, March 27th.

We will be sending a more detailed message next week too. Again, we wish everyone a great Spring Break.

Sincerely,

Ms. Ko and Ms. Dalwood
