Good afternoon, Colonel Irvine School Community,
As we enter the month of May, we hope that you are all continuing to be well, staying healthy and connected. Our grade 5 students had their first field trip to Weaselhead Flats on Thursday. They had a fabulous and muddy day on their learning walk through Weaselhead. We would like to thank our parent volunteers for helping make this trip possible and for spending the time with students and teachers.
We are also happy to share that we have not been short teaching staff since Wednesday of this week. We are hopeful that we are through the worst of the teacher illnesses and shortages. We have been extremely fortunate in the past two years to have guest teachers available to support student learning when we needed, the past three weeks have been the exception and not the norm. Absence Reporting can be found on CBE's website. https://cbe.ab.ca/about-us/school-culture-and-environment/health-and-wellness-in-school/Pages/absence-reporting.aspx
Our grade 9's had their ELA Part A practice Provincial Achievement Test (PAT). The purpose of today was to give all students a chance to experience what the actual PAT will be like and to receive feedback on their writing. Students and teachers were able to familiarize themselves with the Quest A+ writing platform and we were able to identify some tech issues that we will work to rectify prior to the official PAT on Monday, May 16th. The Grade 6 students will have the practice PAT on Friday, May 6, with the official test taking place on Wednesday, May 18.
Today, students participated in Indigenous block, if they weren't still writing the practice PAT. Today they started a project on Red Dresses. Please ask them what the Red Dress symbolizes. On May 5, we will put all the student work on display at the front of the school.
As always, we hope you are doing well, and that you are enjoying the warmer weather. If you have any questions or concerns, please always reach out.
Ms. Ko and Ms. Dalwood

A reminder to parents/guardians to always sign in with Administration while at the school and to remain in the office during school hours unless otherwise instructed. You may feel comfortable walking around, but it can be alarming to students to see strangers in the hallways without an ID tag. Thank you for your understanding.
