We had a fun-filled activity morning. The weather co-operated and there was lots of fun and laughter for all the students. Thank you to our parent volunteers who helped the stations run smoothly. I am sure the students will have lots to share with you tonight about the different stations they were able to participate in. On that note I left my helmet at home, and although not required past the age of 18... I like to set a good example to the students. My apologies.
Last night, many parents joined us for the music and band concerts. It was so lovely to see so many of you in person again and to display the learning these students have done over the past year (two in some cases). Special thanks to our band council members and our teachers Ms. Fenwick and Mr. Haller for their hard work. It was amazing to hear the wonderful sounds of music.
We had another fire drill this week, this time during class change. Students did well and exited the building quickly and quietly. We have one more drill left this year.
As we prepare for the upcoming Provincial Achievement Tests (Grade 6 and 9, schedule below) and end of year celebrations, we wanted to share more details about the end of the year. The last day of regular classes for the Grade 9’s will be June 19th. They still have full school days until the 29th, but the rest of the days will be writing and preparing for provincial achievement tests, finishing their option and PE classes, and participating in year-end activities.
We are hoping to take all students swimming at the Highwood Pool the week of June 20th-24th. Each grade will go for one morning or afternoon. More information and forms will be shared through PE class. We are planning school-wide lessons and activities on Tuesday, June 21st to honour National Indigenous Peoples Day. The last day of school for students is Tuesday, June 28th. On this day, we will be holding our awards assemblies in the morning, having a BBQ for all students for lunch, distributing yearbooks and holding year end celebrations in homeroom classes. The day before, Monday, June 27th, is the grade 9 Farewell celebration. Due to the number of students and parents we need to host, we will be holding two ceremonies that day. We will be sending out a more detailed message to our grade 9 parents next week.
If there are any parents interested in volunteering on June 7 at the Foothills Athletic Park for the track and field meet, please contact me at bsko@cbe.ab.ca. Sorry for the short notice, we were just assigned additional tasks we could use assistance with.
Thank you for your continued support.
