The Week Ahead - February 6

Good afternoon, Colonel Irvine School Community.

Yesterday, was our Open House for incoming grade 5 and 7 students in the Fall of 2023. A special thank you to students who volunteered to make the event a success. We had over 300 prospective students and parents last night. It is hard to believe we are planning for next year already.

This week we hosted our monthly meeting with both Principal Student Advisory Groups (Grades 5/6 and Grade 7-9). We reflected on the changes made to activity day registration. Consensus was it was much improved. We also gathered ideas about organizations/issues that we can donate our fundraising activities to for the second half of the school year. The final decision will be made at the next meeting. We are also seeking ideas from them on how to more frequently recognize student achievement/character throughout the school year. Discussions are on-going. Our next meeting will be at lunch on Thursday, February 23. We really appreciate hearing our students' voices and ideas.

Today was a non-instructional day and teachers worked together on creating common learning tasks, differentiating instruction and creating high quality outcomes-based assessments. We hope students will enjoy the long weekend.

Badminton teams were finalized this week. We are grateful to Ms. Vo, Ms. Lacuata, Ms. Lee, Ms. Yeo, Mr. Luu, Mr. Prather and Mr. Bong for their time coaching these teams and wish them success this season.

Lastly, we'd like to welcome back Mr. Vinh Luu to our school community and thank Mr. Barry Bong for supporting our school community in his absence.

Thank you for helping to build and foster a strong school community. Have a great week everyone.

Ms. Ko & Ms. Dalwood
