Good afternoon, Colonel Irvine School Community,
As we come to the end of February and Black History month, students were given the opportunity to reflect on the question, “Why does representation matter?” Humanities classes in Grade 7-9 engaged in discussions and a film analysis on the topic.
We can’t believe that we will be entering the month of March next week. We will be having our last round of parent/teacher conferences in 2 weeks. We will be having a hybrid model for upcoming interviews. More details below. Teachers will be sending out emails to share if a meeting is required to go over learning concerns. Regardless, parents are always welcome to book an appointment. If you need an interpreter, please contact the school.
Thank you to all the students and staff who wore pink on Wednesday to support Pink Shirt Day. It is important for all of us to work together to prevent and stop bullying behaviors in our school community. Together we can build a warm, caring, safe learning environment for everyone.
This year the province has instituted a province-wide schedule for Provincial Achievement Tests, the schedule is further below. Students in Grade 6 and 9 will be taking these tests in May and June. Results of these tests will provide Alberta Education, ourselves, our teachers, parents and students with information about what students know and can do in relation to provincial standards. Students cannot write these tests ahead of time.
The administration from the new NW high school will be meeting students designated there on Thursday, March 2 during the school day. Students will get their course selection sheets for that school that day too. Thank you to all parents/students for getting the course pick sheets back to us.
We’d like to again remind parents/guardians to pre-order a yearbook. February 28th is the last day to order. We have sold 215 yearbooks so far. Our current enrollment is 772. We want to ensure we have enough books for everyone.
Thank you for your continued support in building a strong school community. Have a great weekend.
