English

The language arts curriculum emphasizes the key components of reading, writing, listening, viewing and representing in many different mediums. Students are guided to respond personally and critically to oral, print and other media texts.

Nov - Dec Update:

The English Language Arts Team at Colonel Irvine has been working on a number of initiatives this fall. Teachers facilitated a Narrative Writing Assessment to help identify strengths and challenges in student writing, and to inform our teaching program going forward. To compliment our program, teachers also organized two theatre opportunities for students, first to the high school production of Sherlock Holmes and the West End Horror, and then to Theatre Calgary’s A Christmas Carol. Going to the theatre not only supports our school in building community, but it is also a great way to engage in drama as a medium for language and artistic expression. Thank you to staff and students for engaging in this valuable work.
