Regular Program at the CBE

Even though most of our schools offer a regular program, no two are quite the same. All schools teach according to Alberta Education’s mandated curriculum, however a school’s focus, optional courses and school activities are as unique as every school.

Program, Focus & Approach

The teaching team at Colonel Walker School includes six energetic and creative individuals who, along with the Principal practice a highly collaborative approach to improving learning for students. In addition to designing inquiries and learning tasks through which students gain knowledge and develop capacities and skills associated with Alberta Education Programs of Studies, the team also works closely with the Parent Association and extended community to provide program enhancements such as:

  • Residencies
  • Student Clubs
  • Dare to Care & S4 - Start Smart Stay Safe
  • Fieldtrips
  • Integration of Technology
  • Learning Commons
  • Global and Local Citizenship Initiatives

Kindergarten

Colonel Walker School offers a half-day program. We are proud and excited about our program. We believe that kindergarten provides our children with the enhanced literacy and numeracy foundations that support them throughout their school careers. Learn more on our Kindergarten page.

French as a Second Language

In addition to the regular program, We offer French as a Second Language for Grades 4, 5 and 6.

Homework

It is recommended by the Calgary Board of Education that children in Grades 1 to 3 complete 5 - 10 minutes of reading each night although no formal assignments should be made. For Grades 4 to 6, formal assignments can be required but should not exceed 20 minutes.
