Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome
This beginning of the school year has been a busy one as teachers have been preparing for students starting on August 31st. The hustle and bustle of preparing classrooms and setting the stage for learning is important. I know that everyone is a little nervous the night before school about the prospects of the year to come. We are looking forward to meeting our students tomorrow.
First Day of School
We are asking all students to come around the back of the school to the compound area to meet up with their classroom teachers starting around 8:30 a.m. Teachers will be outside with the safety vests and signs with their names on them. If you are unsure of your child's teachers, we will have large charts that have your child's name on them to help you locate the correct teacher. In addition, Ms. Dalton, Mrs. Baker, Mrs. Bessemer and Ms. Brady will be outside also supporting families and directing them to the right location.
Our school day starts at 8:42 a.m. when the first bell rings and teachers open for doors for students to come in. Then second bell indicates that classes have started. On the first day, teachers will be staying outside a little longer to ensure they have all of their students before proceeding into the school to begin their day.
End of Day Pick Up
For many of our young students, we have family members who come to the school to pick up their child at the end of the day. We ask if you child is in grades 1, 3, 4 and you come to the compound area, that family members stand back at the edge of the compound so that the students can come outside with their classroom teachers. Teachers will bring classes far into the compound area and as each child is dismissed, they will make sure they are connected with the right person. If you would like your child to walk home on their own, please email your child's teacher directly. For students in grade 2 and Kindergarten, they will be dismissed from the west side of the school. Again, please provide space to allow the teachers to walk out with their students. For our grade 5 students, they will be released out the doors on the east side of the school.
We ask parents to arrive on time so that your child is not waiting long. If older siblings are coming to pick up their brother or sisters we ask that they behave in a caring, respectful manner that promotes welcoming, safe and caring CBE schools.
Traffic around our school- Be Aware!
It is an exciting time in our community with the opening of Old Trail High School. Many of the students will be walking, riding or driving to their new school for the first time tomorrow. With the location of the new high school we are anticipating more congestions on the main roads around the school starting at about 8:30 due to the start time of the Old Trail High being 9:00 a.m. We ask for our community members to watch out for our students. For those who are new to our school, we have a HugNGo zone that is located in the front of the school on Coventry Hills Way. Students of all ages can be dropped off at this location and an adult will ensure they will get to their designated doors for students in grades 1 – 5. The wonderful thing about our HugNGo is that the children do not need to cross the roads and they are safe on our school grounds. Please consider using this service instead of parking your cars and then walking your child to the school compound.
See you all tomorrow!
Ms. Dalton, Principal
