Dear Coventry Families;
On September 21st Coventry Hills School will host our annual Terry Fox Run. The Terry Fox Run is a charity event that we take part in to honour Canadian hero and cancer research advocate Terry Fox. This year K to 5 students will be running/walking a course on our school field. Our school run will take place from 2:45pm to 3:15pm.
Students are encouraged to support cancer research by donating a "Toonie for Terry. "We will be collecting funds in the office from September 12th to September 28th. Last year we raised $1600, let's see if we can reach $1700!
We would love to have volunteers to support our running in the field and to encourage our students to keep running. Parents are required to have completed their Annual Volunteer Registration Form sent home in the packages last week along with the CPS volunteer clearance. Thank you to all the parents who came out for our first School Council/CHEFS meeting of the school year. It was great to see some new faces. Every parent is a member of our school council and it is a wonderful way for families to learn about events happening at hour school. Thank you to the Council for all their work they do to serve our school community. The School Council and CHEFS send out correspondence to our school community through school messenger and through paper copies sent home with your child. Have a look at all the wonderful events including our Fun Lunch Healthy Hunger events that are coming soon.
At our Council meeting, we shared information about how we are working with the concept of “Story “as a curricular lens in designing curricular tasks for our students this year. Teachers have been creating essential questions related to their curriculums about the concept of story and they will be sharing this information during our Open House sessions this Thursday. Please remember to register for our Open House. Information is posted on our school website.
This week teachers worked with our Indigenous Artist in Residence, Chantal Chagnon who shared teachings of the medicine wheel, shared teachings of Indigenous drums and worked with staff in singing and drumming to Indigenous songs. We are looking forward to planning how she will work with our students starting October 2nd. Thank you to CHEFS for sponsoring this learning experience for our students.
Sincerely,
Benita Dalton
