Welcome Summer!

Congratulations! We have made it through the Covid-19 pandemic year. We had a school year filled with many restrictions. These included: cohorting inside and outside, lunch in classrooms, lots of sanitizing, each grade entering through their own door, entering the school as soon students arrive, online learning, isolating, and don't forget the masks. But we all made it! Thanks to everyone's efforts, we did a fantastic job of following all the protocols, and by so doing, we were able to keep everyone safe.

Together, we learned that we are stronger than we think. We can change and adjust to any conditions and learned to have fun even with restrictions. Students have built relationships with their classmates that are stronger than any other school year. We saw imaginations grow, as students figured out new games to play at recess with their classmates. Thank you for helping us to achieve these accomplishments and helping us when we needed to adjust!

As a staff, we would like to thank you for a great year. We have all learned a lot about change, how to be flexible, and how to teach and do things differently.

We hope you have a wonderful summer and looking forward to seeing everyone back September 1st.

Springtime at Cranston

Parents and Families,

Spring has arrived, and we are excited to see the snow gone, birds back and trees getting ready to bloom.  Springtime at Cranston is an exciting time, and we are looking forward to spending more time outside, meeting families and friends and celebrations of learning.  Our teachers are excited to meet with families during our parent teacher interviews in April.  Our students are also excited to see what will be at our Scholastic Book Fair during our interviews.  Classes will be expanding their learning beyond the Cranston Community with field trips all over the city.  This spring some of our students will explore the city through Aggie Days, Leighton Center, Ralph Klein Park and Butterfield Acers to name a few.  We are also excited to welcome Alien Inline, Artfelt and Michael Mitchell into our school to share exciting learning with our school community.  Our students will also continue to explore exciting learning opportunities with school-wide events such as; Drumfit, Club Fridays and Sports Day.  As always, we love it when parents and families can be part of events at our school, and we look forward to seeing you soon!

Welcome Back!

Our school has transitioned into a new Mission and Values.  Our new values are, “At Cranston School, we support the whole child.  We celebrate growth. We honour diversity.”  Our mission is, “Fostering growth, resiliency and empathy in our students through personalized learning and inclusion.”  This mission and values have and will continue to live in our students and staff, as our learning journeys beyond the boundaries of Cranston as students participated in numerous learning opportunities.

In 2017-2018, our students participated in a wide range of learning activities, from swimming at Bob Bahan, dance with SoundKreation, exploring downtown, Calgary Zoo, Telus Spark, Inglewood Bird Sanctuary, Glenbow Museum, Open Minds at Stampede Park and Art Commons,  and learning with Blackfoot Elders about Tipi Teachings and the Acknowledgement of the Land, just to name a few.  Students have explored their programs of study in many different ways and built rich and meaningful relationships with their teachers and peers.

We look forward to working with our new and existing families and hope everyone has a great year at Cranston School.
