As we approach the end the school year, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on the wonderful year of learning that we have had. This year saw the return of the “Reading Grandparents” program. We are so grateful that so many volunteered to spend Thursday mornings, reading with the Grade 1-4 students. Our Division Two students all spent a week a at Calgary Campus/Open Minds Schools, learning in the downtown core and experiencing school outside of Deer Run. We appreciated hearing about their learning and new understandings of the world around them. Division One students found their way to the pool and plunged back into swimming lessons. The growth as swimmers, in just a few short lessons, was amazing to see. And of course, we were all able to gather and celebrate the hard work of all Deer Run students at the “Winter Concert”. The concert was something to behold and it was wonderful to have everyone back in person as audience members.
We would like to thank our families for your continued support. Your encouragement, patience, and understanding have played an important role in creating a nurturing environment for our students to thrive. We are grateful for your continuous involvement and know that students flourish when there is a strong home-school connection.
Looking ahead to next year at Deer Run, there will be a few staff members that we will have said, “see you soon” to. Teachers, Ms. Jo-Lynn McPhail (Music), Ms. Elise Anderson (Support Teacher), Ms. Haley Bauman (Grade ½), Ms. Cherry Adris (Grade 5), will all be moving on to different opportunities. We wish them continued success as they move forward. Support staff members, Ms. Susan Smiley (Lunch Supervisor), Mr. Robert Wallis (Educational Assistant), and Ms. Corrie MacRae (Educational Assistant) will also be moving on to new adventures. We will miss all these faces in the halls of Deer Run School, but know that they will be back to visit.
On behalf of the Deer Run School staff we want to wish you all a safe and restful summer break. We hope your time away is filled with joy, laughter, and memory filled adventures. Take this time to recharge, reflect, and come back ready for learning on August 31, 2023.
