Welcome Back Douglas Harkness Families!
This is your first “DHS Weekly Message” of the 2022-23 school year!
To those of you who are returning for another year with us, welcome! To those of you who are new to Douglas Harkness, we can't wait to meet you and your child(ren) on Monday!! You have come to a great place!
Your child's grade team has been busy setting up inviting and engaging learning spaces for your child(ren). They have made phone calls to all families outlining were to meet on Monday morning. They left messages for those who were not home to answer the call. I will sum it up in the information below…
LUNCH KITS! As mentioned at the end of June, each child will be given a lunch kit generously donated by Rogers Communications and Breakfast Clubs of Canada. Our hope was to send these kits home on day one however the kits are all similar in shape and colour so we have decided to hang onto them at the school for a few days to make sure they are all appropriately labeled with your child’s name before we send them home. You can anticipate getting the lunch kit sometime during the SECOND WEEK OF SCHOOL. Kindergarten teachers might hold onto the kits until October when the kids are better able to recognize their names. In the meantime, please use last year’s lunch kit or a plastic bag. We will get the kits to you as soon as we can. I promise they are worth the wait! Check out our Twitter account for a sneak peek at all the goodies inside the kits!!
WHAT TO BRING TO SCHOOL and WHAT TO LEAVE AT HOME School supplies are provided by the school. Please send your child with a lunch, a snack, a backpack, and a pair of running shoes that they can leave at school. Please do not send toys, gaming devices, or cell phones to school with your child. We are not responsible for the loss or damage of valuable items.
FIRST DAY IS MONDAY AUGUST 15, 2022 We will be gathering on the back field at 8:20am. Please look for your child's grade poster. From there, you will be able to follow the teachers to the assigned entry and exit door so that you will know where to pick your child up at 3:25pm. If your child will be walking home alone, please let their teacher know at that time.
MEET THE TEACHER OPEN HOUSE We are excited to have our families back in the building this year and we have a few evening events planned in the fall and spring. Our first event is “Meet the Teacher” which will happen on Thursday August 25th.
