FUNDRAISING CASINO: A heartfelt thank you to all those who are volunteering at our casino this weekend! Without your commitment we would not be able to make an event like this happen. A special thank you to our amazing council chair Sonya who has worked tirelessly to ensure that all the volunteer positions are filled. For those of you who have not met Sonya, she doesn’t wear a cape but she IS IN FACT a real live super hero!

FALL BACK INTO LITERACY EVENT SUCCESS STORY: Our Fall Back Into Literacy events were a huge success! We had over half of our families join us for an evening of literacy games and stories, and handed out over 2000 gently used books! To top it off, students enjoyed a half hour sing along with Raffi on Friday. Don’t worry Kindergarten kids! We know you don’t have school on Fridays but Raffi said he will do a private show for you in the next week or two!!

SCHOOL WEBSITE: Please look at our Douglas Harkness School website for important information including our current Coco Brooks Pizza Fundraiser. Deadline is November 9th. Check your child’s backpack for more information.

PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS: are happening on the evening of November 24th and the morning of November 25th. Interviews are 15 minutes each. You will need to sign up for your interview through Power School. Please make sure you have a Power School account set up so that you can book your interview time. Interview booking will open at 8:00am on Friday November 18th and it will close at 2:00pm on the 24th. If you need help setting up your Power School account, please call the office.

STUDENT TEACHERS: We are fortunate to have 8 student teachers from the University of Calgary, St. Mary’s University, and Mount Royal University joining us at Douglas Harkness this year. Some are just starting out on their learning journey so they are with us for a half day a week all year long while others are in their 3rd or 4th year of training so they are with us every day for a few months at a time. Ask your children if they have a student teacher helping out in their classroom!
